K-W Discovery Day: Environmental Awareness with LSFL

[Waterloo, ON]- Saturday, March 10,2006 Laurier Students for Literacy (LSFL) will be hosting an afternoon of environment based games and activities to kick off March Break.  The event will take place at the Turret on the 4th floor of the Fred Nichols Campus Centre on Laurier Waterloo Campus from 1:00pm to 3:0pm. Featured at the event will be local author Frank Glew and his latest release, Boomer Rules which was illustrated by the Marna Twins and as well there will be presentations by Mad Science.

This is a great opportunity for elementary school children to enjoy free educational programs while still having fun and enjoying their time off from school.  As this event is in association with Citizens for the Protections of the Waterloo Morane, Friends of Hidden Valley, 7 Generations Network and waterlooians.ca there are bound to be great things to come of this special event.

LSFL is an organization completely comprised of volunteers who are dedicated to promoting literacy and instilling a love of learning in local children aged 3-18.  Programs range from one-on-one tutoring to group craft session, and help build motivation and self-esteem in children.

Carolyn Thompson, LSFL Coordinator, explains how LSFL is hoping that this event will “We’re hoping to help the children understand a little more about the environmental issues that face us and the importance of things like recycling, while showing them in a fun and interactive way."
