About Peer Help Line
Peer Help Line was formed in the Spring of 1991, as a result of a growing demand for a service that caters to Laurier students’ specific needs through the form of peer counseling. The line is available nightly from 7:00pm until 1:00am.
Peer Help Line is a confidential phone service provided for Laurier students by Laurier students as an information, referral and listening service. Volunteers are trained in crisis management and can guide you in the right direction or find information for you, no matter what the situation. When you call 884-PEER, everything is kept confidential and you have immediate access to crisis support as well as campus and community information.
Volunteers are able to provide callers with any Kitchener-Waterloo information including phone numbers for clinics, taxis, restaurants, clubs, etc. Peer Help Line can also provide callers with referral numbers for on campus academic and health counselor contacts as well as aid with any other campus inquiries. Volunteers also provide a listening ear for those who simply want to talk about any concerns they might have. Each call is handled compassionately by our volunteers where each caller is kept anonymous and all items discussed are kept confidential.
Peer Help Line caters to both the Waterloo Campus at 884-PEER as well as the Brantford campus through our toll free number: 1-866-281-PEER (1-866-281-7337)
Peer Help Line responds to all calls, no matter what the subject matter; each call is as important as the next. Someone will always be there to listen.
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
- Leo Buscaglia
