WLUSU Student Services

On behalf of Wilfrid Laurier’s Student Services department, welcome to your new home! As a First Year Student you can expect to experience a number of changes with living away from home, meeting new people and being emerged in a lively and diverse campus environment.  The Student Services Department recognizes the changing needs of students at Laurier and provides security, safety, knowledge, understanding, nutrition, opportunity, support and awareness in the form of seven distinct service groups:

BACCHUS – Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students is a peer awareness group that focuses on educating the Laurier Community on responsible decision making regarding student health issues, specifically concerning drinking, safe sexual behaviour, drug abuse and stress management.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (ERT) – ERT is a team of First Responder qualified Volunteers who are on-call daily to assist the Laurier community when they become injured or suddenly ill. They can be contacted through Foot Patrol at 886-FOOT (886-3668) or Special Constable Services at 885-3333.

FOOT PATROL – WLUSU Foot Patrol is the only completely volunteer-based walk home service in the country.  Every night a male-female, radio-dispatched teams accompany students to and from campus as well as to and from off-campus destinations, either by foot or by van. They can be reached at 886-FOOT (886-3668).

PEER HELP LINE – This confidential peer to peer phone service available to listen to any problems that may arise as a result of student life. They also provide the students of Laurier with any Kitchener-Waterloo, Brantford or campus related information, phone numbers and resources. Peer Help Line is open daily and can be reached at 884-PEER.

LAURIER STUDENTS FOR LEARNING (LSFL) – LSFL was established with two main goals in mind: to instill a love of reading in children and to encourage literacy through one-on-one tutoring. LSFL provides great volunteer opportunities for students interested in education or working with children.

STUDENT FOOD BANK – The Student Food Bank features a completely anonymous system in which applicants use the form found directly on the wlusu.com website, e-mail it to the committee and a food hamper containing 2-3 meals will be placed in a locker on campus for the student to pick up. The Student Food Bank works in partnership with regional resources to help meet dietary restrictions of our students in need.

CAMPUS CLUBS – Campus Clubs provides safe, fun opportunities for students with similar interests to join others and run events, meetings and activities. Over 3,000 students participate in our over 90 Clubs and the Students’ Union always provides the opportunity to establish new clubs based on your own interests.

Throughout Orientation Week be sure to say hi to BACCHUS when you get on a bus, call ERT if you get hurt, let Foot Patrol walk or drive you home safely or dial 884-PEER if you need some information or a listening ear.

After Orientation Week all 7 Student Services can be found on the 3rd Floor of the Fred Nichols Campus Centre.  Students are strongly encouraged to seek out the numerous volunteer opportunities available in this department or utilize the available services as often as they can.

Welcome to Laurier, we can’t wait to meet you!
